About the Artist
Kristina F. Walker
A Nlaka'pamux artist with over 20 years of creative experience. Her practice blends traditional Indigenous teachings with vibrant, contemporary artwork centered on cultural resilience, colorful revitalization, and personal healing. Through original paintings, public designs, and digital art downloads, Kristina uses her work as a collective act of grounding, community connection, and intergenerational storytelling.
Art has always been more than an aesthetic pursuit for Kristina—it is a vital vessel for personal survival, healing, and connection. Drawing for over two decades and painting for more than ten years, she has developed a distinct visual language. Her work seamlessly bridges the stories and teachings of Elders with high-contrast, contemporary expression—utilizing rich color palettes, intricate line work, and symbolic imagery to explore themes of identity and community.
In 2021, at the age of 30, Kristina survived a life-altering stroke and was subsequently diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Navigating chronic health challenges and artery dissections, she leaned heavily into her creative practice. She continues to use her artwork to ground herself, overcome adversity, and remain deeply tied to her culture and community. These personal health challenges have cultivated an extraordinary resilience, an unwavering sense of perspective, and a deep capacity for empathy that enriches every piece she creates.
Kristina’s ongoing practice centers heavily on indigenous preservation and translating the guidance of local Knowledge Keepers into visual form. In 2024, she created a significant Every Child Matters design in partnership with BC Transport, the Nicola Valley Partners Alliance, and Emil-Anderson Group. Her collaborative work continues to expand across British Columbia—from the Nicola Valley to Courtenay—as she engages with Elders to preserve traditional teachings, and create unique images rooted in respect, reciprocity, and shared remembrance.
Outside the studio, Kristina brings her organizational precision, empathy, and warm presence to her professional role as Executive Assistant at Live Timber. When she is not painting or supporting the team, she prioritizes balance, grounding, and connection—cherishing time spent with her partner Geoff, her dog Odin, and her closest loved ones, often recharging her creative energy through restful afternoons and quiet moments in nature gaining inspiration through each interaction.
